I’ve heard it said countless times; “all the profitable niches are saturated”. It’s a half-truth, based on assumptions that are dead wrong.

Sure, markets like fitness, dating, and finance are harder to enter than less competitive ones, like hobby-based industries. But there’s still room for you too, in any niche – if you know where to look.

This article will teach you how to find profitable sub niches – high-demand markets with low competition and lots of traffic.

What is the difference between a niche and a sub niche?

The difference between a niche and a sub niche is that a niche is the main category of any given market (like automotive), while a sub niche is one of several categories under the niche (like European, American, or Japanese cars).

While the majority of a given market’s profit comes from small niches like sub niches, most people choose to compete in large niches.

To make any money online, however, you need to go after that sweet small niche cash flow.

It might seem scary dipping your toes into unfamiliar waters, but if you’re smart about how you do it, there’s nothing wrong with picking low-competition sub niches and using them to dominate your own little slice of the Internet.

And you can do it while still making good money.

What are the most profitable sub niches?

Sub niches that fall into any of these niches are incredibly profitable:

Health, wealth, and dating.

These are the big three personal motivators. People are usually unhappy with one, or all of these areas of their lives.

People often want to feel healthier, have more money, and have a better love life.

So, a lot of people go looking for answers.

They search online and find everything from diet plans to dating guides in order to improve their lives.

And that’s where you come in.

By supplying this information to them, you can capture every last dollar these people spend looking for health, wealth, or love.

There are entire industries dedicated solely to answering the question “how can I meet my perfect match?”, and it shows – average Americans spend over one hundred billion dollars per year on products designed at improving their romantic lives (dating services, toys for couples, etc.).

So there’s definitely room for an alternative.

How to find a sub niche

There’s a technique to finding a sub niche, even if you enter highly competitive industries.

Let’s say, for example, you want to enter the health industry.

Now, trying to appeal to everybody who wants to be healthier will create problems for you.

Because ‘health’ is such a popular industry, the level of competition is too fierce. That means you need to drill down into a specific area of health, for example ‘weight loss’.

However, this can still be too competitive, so you need to drill down further again.

An easy way to drill down is to cut a niche in half.

For example, ‘weight loss for men’ might be a way to cut your niche in half, and eliminate half the competition in the process.

Now, ‘weight loss for men’ might still be too broad.

The next step is to cut the niche in half yet again.

You now have ‘fat loss for men over 40’.

That’s a far more specific area of focus, and that’s much easier to rank for on Google.

It’s easier for you to become known as the person who helps ‘men over 40 to lose fat’, than it is to become the person who helps everyone.

Sometimes this approach is called finding your blue ocean.

How to validate your sub niche ideas

Once you have a short list of sub niche ideas, you need to validate them.

The easiest way to do this is by searching for the different sub niches on Google Trends.

Google trends will show you how many times a given search term was searched for since 2004.

Ideally, you should see one of two things.

Consistent growth over time, or steady interest over time.

Another way to validate your sub niche is to look at the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP) for relevant adverts.

If someone is spending money on adverts, chances are they’re making a return – that most likely means people are buying.

Finally, search for your sub niche on Amazon.

If you see a lot of products for sale, the sub niche has potential.

How to find profitable keywords

Once you’ve chosen your sub niche and validated it, it’s time to move onto finding some keywords.

To find keywords suggestions, use Google’s autocomplete feature.

Type your sub niche and press the space bar. Google will give you a list of suggestions. Now, the thing with this list; people are searching for these keywords.

To validate these keywords, you can use a wide range of tools but Google’s own Keyword Planner will let you see how many people are searching every month.

If you want to be more precise, try a tool like SEMRush. It will tell you how many people search for the keywords each month, and also how much they spend on average.

Conclusion

Finding profitable sub niches is easy once you know how.

The important points to remember are:

1) Drill down into an existing niche.

2) Eliminate half the competition by cutting a sub niche in half (or more).

3) Look for keywords suggestions, and make sure people are actually searching for them each month.

Once you know how to find profitable sub niches, it’s easy to build a successful online business around your keyword selections.
